Above is a picture of what my piece looked like towards the beginning. I was planning on making a mug and painting New York City on it. When I was on the wheel, it turned into more of a cup/ bowl thing. I just left it as be even though the shape isn't what I really imagined. I tried to smooth out the edges to get it more even and it helped a little bit. Mrs.Sudkamp told me how I could use wax to make the buildings stand out more and I was all for it! I know I wanted to use materials I haven't before and this was my first time doing so. My plans were to use the wax to draw the cities and go from there.
Above is a picture of what it looks like with the wax on it. I decided to draw the buildings on (even though it is really sloppy) to help guide me when painting on the wax. You can't tell from the picture very well but I soaked the bowl/ mug so that the places without the wax on them would sink in, so the windows of the buildings. I think once it fires it will look a lot better because you wont be able to see the messy lines from my pencil. This is all I have been working on this week and I can't wait to continue and see what it ends up turning out like! I am still thinking about the colors I want to paint it, I was thinking maybe the buildings black and windows yellow, and then add a light pastel color for the strip underneath the buildings and then I haven't decided what I would want the sky color to be. I might change the colors of the whole thing but for now this is what I am planning on doing.
